New Moon in Scorpio - Re-Emergence 🦋

Creation / Destruction - the very cycle that is inherent in all living forms. We cannot have one without the other, as it is a crucial part of the life experience. This in-between space of metamorphosis is typically assigned to the fixed water sign of Scorpio, as it is in these waters where beginnings and endings are created - within the womb space that holds the constancy of nothing and all that is, allowing the two to reside in tandem.

Most of us are familiar with the saying, "when one door closes another opens" - which is certainly true, yet as Alexander Graham Bell stated in his own version of the quote, "... but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." These are wise words as we enter the vortex of this creative new cycle that is now upon us, as Scorpio can be all too good at licking past wounds and replaying our own emotional stories in such a way that keep us stuck in an obsessive loop of what has been lost rather than what is still on offer. For the tarot buffs out there, this is 5 of Cups territory.

Exact on Wednesday, November 7th at 8:02am PDT - trusting in the magic of new beginnings is the very essence of this New Moon in Scorpio. Despite the growing pains and the difficulty of the metamorphic process, here we now stand - ready to start fresh. The previous lunar cycle initiated by the New Moon in Libra held a lot of transformative energy within it, leading to internal awakenings that have presented us with the opportunity to now re-create ourselves through the decay. By honoring the process and diving deep within to set intentions around a revised emotional framework, we hold the promise of manifestation once the Full Moon of this sequence arrives in May 2019.

The Aspects - Jupiter's Last Stand ♏️

Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. The aspects here are tamer than the ones we encountered in the previous cycle, yet they are just as potent in carrying out the story. Our luminaries connect with the two farthest reaching bodies, Neptune and Pluto, and our New Moon ruler - Mars in Aquarius - is making contact with both Venus RX and a 29° Jupiter who is less than a day away from making the big move into the sign of his domicile. So let's not waste time and jump right in...

New Moon In Libra 2018 - Astrology Chart - Energetic Principles

Let's start with the overall signature that I see popping out for this lunation and that is Jupiter at the 29° degree of Scorpio. To me this New Moon speaks to the wrapping up of the potent Jupiter in Scorpio transit that has shaped our personal growth and that of society over the last year since his ingress into the sign in October 2017. Jupiter demands progress no matter the delicacy of the topics being reformed, and we saw an emotional year of secrets coming to light and sensitive material rising to the surface to be seen and healed. It's rewarding in the end, and the plight is not over, yet we've all grown enough during this time (hopefully) to be able to incorporate the sage wisdom of these lessons - with now being the moment to set intentions of great change, inviting the creation of the future we long to stabilize.

Jupiter is also in a flowing trine aspect with the North Node in Cancer, which has just moved into the sign of the crab the day before this New Moon. This too is a big shift, as our nodal axis highlights the societal trends our collective psyche works through in 18-month shifts. We are leaving the territory of following one's heart and now onto nurturing the self and the emotional foundation we stand upon. These two pass off the baton, symbolizing by their connection that one water cycle is ending (Jupiter in Scorpio) and one is just beginning (North Node in Cancer), which can also be said for the fire cycle as Jupiter moves into Sagittarius and the North Node leaves Leo. So there is a changing of guard in these territories, with the two in harmonious connection as the shift is made.

The Sun and Moon are also in a separating trine with Neptune and an applying sextile with Pluto; which if you have been following the New Moon stories since the Summer, you will see that there has been a Plutonian theme developing since our solar eclipse in Cancer back in July. Where last months new moon lunation activated tension that led to change and big decisions, this one gives us the opportunity (by sextile) to open the door to those shifts and to use the Neptunian vibes to dissolve whatever is in our way by letting go and surrendering to what is. The trine to Neptune also asks that as we set fresh intentions, that we honor where Spirit is guiding us while also embodying our dreams and utopian visions of what can be. If all that is lives in this space of creation, why not propose that what is to be manifested falls inline with the Shangri-la of your hearts desire?

The ruler of this lunation, Mars in Aquarius, is making his own flowing trine to Venus who is still in retrograde motion yet now in the sign of her domicile, Libra. It's been a while since these two have met in a harmonious connection, as much of the year these two have been in retrograde cycles and passing each other in tense aspects. However, there was a trine previous to this one back on August 7th - involving the same signs of Libra & Aquarius - as Mars was then in his RX cycle. So look back to that time to gain a little insight into what story may be picking up again to be re-birthed with new values in place.

With this second meeting, and after much RX re-processing, our masculine and feminine responses can now work together - allowing us to open up to that which we truly desire while honoring what we are worth and making the decisions that motivate us to go after what we envision for the future. This alignment of the male and female principle is likely taking place on an internal level, yet it can also show up in outside partnerships of all kinds as Libra and Scorpio are both considered relationship territory. So you can look to this new moon as giving us a revised lease on the relational aspect of our lives - and that may look different for many of you. Some may find that they have had enough and are making the decision to bring things to an end so that they may open the door to what's next. Some may decide to transform the relationship and revive it into new being. Some may be honoring the relationship with themselves and rebirthing their inner emotional commitment... these are all valid potentials.

Mars is also applying to a square with Jupiter that won't perfect until the two change signs and meet on Nov 19th - in Pisces and Sagittarius respectively. Yet there is already the push that is driving us towards activating the progress we are seeking to make. Chiron is also chiming in to complete a grand water trine with Jupiter and the North Node, which I spoke of earlier. As Chiron is known for finding the wisdom through painful experiences, I look at this aspect as a soothing balm that will only reinforce the healing power that is inherent within the sign of the Scorpion.

The Symbol - Sunshine Breaks 🌞

If you are a frequent reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:

16° Scorpio - "A girl's face breaking into a smile."

Keyword: Acquiescence

Theme: Sunshine

To me, this symbol really reads as a breath of fresh air as who isn't invigorated when they see a friendly smile gaze upon them? The theme of sunshine also brings light to the picture, which is always welcome within the dark, dank space that can be Scorpio. A smile also insinuates that there is something to be happy about or to take pleasure in, and that bodes well for the major planetary shifts that will be taking place right as the moon kisses the sun to begin the next cycle of energetic movement.

The keyword of "acquiescence" speaks to me of Neptune and finding the joy in what is. I believe that true fulfillment can take place when we surrender and are in acceptance - acceptance of who we are, acceptance of who our partners and our friends are, acceptance that the magic of existence falls within the ebb and flow of life's cycles. So as we create what's next from within the void, open yourself up by forming a huge smile on your face and let that full acceptance of who you are wash over your body. That joy will then be contagious and you will not be able to help but spread that kindness via each soul you meet in passing.
