Full Moon in Virgo - Critical Release 🌿

Are you ready for some more transitions? This year is flying by as we have our second Full Moon of 2019 now upon us! The Sun saunters into Pisces land and (bam!) we immediately have a full lunation in Virgo - a significant pattern that has been noticeably repeating itself since the end of 2018. Both signs being comprised of mutable, double-bodied energy, we have one foot in what once was, and another into what is coming into being - marking a time of completion and celebration in the acknowledgement that one chapter of life is closing and one is shortly on its way to beginning.

The Virgo / Pisces polarity is an interesting one - as all polarities are - for the Virgo side of the coin is known for its discernment, its reason, its ability to ground itself in the realm of reality. Pisces is the dreamer, a mystical force that is self sacrificing and has a high degree of sensitivity. Virgo can draw the lines, while Pisces tends to blur them. Virgo attaches itself to the one piece of the puzzle that is most integral, while Pisces relates to all of the possible viewpoints that are presented. We need our Virgo side to call out illusion, while we also need our Pisces side to open up to Spirit. It really is a delicate balance to keep one half on earth and the other in the heavens, without giving more weight to one side in the process.

Exact on Tuesday, February 19th at 7:54am PST - this will be the 4th Full Moon in a row to fall on 0° of a sign, which is actually quite uncommon of a line-up! So there seems to be a theme of the beginnings of each of these signs culminating toward completion, as if new starts are ripening forward, and we are confronted with protecting this energy so that what was initiated in the New Moon of the same sign back on September 9th, 2018 can now fully blossom. Coincidentally (or not) that was the next lunar cycle that seeded around the time Mars stationed for direct motion after a summer of retrograde antics. A lot of folks probably re-worked their motivations around that time, and now we get to see the fruits of that cycle come into being, helping to further transition what has been brewing since that period.

The Aspects - The Messenger Speaks 👁

Below is a chart of our Full Moon at the time of opposition here in San Diego, CA. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be too much going on with the luminaries yet there is plenty happening under the surface with messenger Mercury, seductive Venus, and a fixed star conjunction. So let's not waste any time and dive right in...

Let's start with our Full Moon ruler, Mercury in Pisces, who is getting quite the astro workout the week of this lunation! At the time of opposition, the messenger is separating from a conjunction with Neptune, and applying to a sextile to Saturn in Capricorn, a square to Jupiter in Sagittarius, and then another sextile to Pluto in Cap - respectively in that order. So with all that mental stimulus, the mind is certainly activated (which would normally be the case during any Virgo moon) yet I think this week will be bringing much news our way - whether it comes from our own intellectual process, or from outside of us, conclusions are coming in.

With Mercury in a conjunction to Neptune at the time of the lunation, it's quite possible to sense things yet all the facts may not be clear, which can cause an emotional response if we don't have the Virgoan proof we desire. So there is an element of faith that is needed as we receive these subtle, spiritual messages that are filtering down. The messenger's square to Jupiter in Sagittarius is also challenging our old beliefs around what our story looks like, pushing into action that it is finally time to let go mentally in order to transition forward. The sextiles to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn will help bring in some much needed practicality within what has its limits and is in need of change.

Now the quality of what comes in is yet to be determined, as Mercury in Pisces - the sign of both its detriment and fall - does not always function best in this sign. Plus that conjunction to Neptune is likely to kick up the imagination yet not always leave us with the clearest of pictures or mental acuity. In fact, even trying to write this article has been a struggle for me for the mind seems all over the place under the current influence! Focus is difficult as the intellect is holding a vast amount of space, and the normal barriers that help formulate the structure of the mind seem to be out to lunch.

Yet I think the nondescript vibe that we may have to wade through with this nebulous energy is setting us up for the upcoming Mercury RX cycle, as we will revisit all of these Mercurial aspects one by one, suggesting that what is culminating during the week of this Full Moon is also setting us up with the fodder necessary for the upcoming retrograde that will begin on March 5th, right before the New Moon in Pisces.

It's also significant to notice that we are in the midst of a handful of conjunctions, where two planets merge together to unify in a new cycle. Mercury has met Neptune - which I just mentioned - and Venus just rendezvoused with Saturn, and will go on to meet the intensity of Pluto. Mars also met Uranus at the 1st quarter moon in Taurus, so there is a plethora of new energy that is birthing itself into being during this lunar cycle. So it feels like whatever is waxing to full lumination is important in the way of making decisions that help to get these new creative energies off the ground, while also cutting the wheat from the chaff in regards to what would be better left behind.

There also seems to be bit of a "power" piece to this lunation as the moon is making a conjunction to the fixed star Regulus and Venus is also approaching a conjunction with the planet Pluto that will perfect later in the week. Regulus, which now sits at 0° of Virgo, is the "heart of the lion" in the Leo constellation. The energy that sits at this point gives great power and is very bright and powerful. It suggests guaranteed success and aligns with the natures of Mars and Jupiter.

I also drew a few cards in a symbol deck that I own around this particular conjunction and received the "Power" and "Growth" symbols. So I feel as if there is an illumination taking place in regards to what is needed for success, where we must evolve and grow by discerning what has outlived its necessity and is in need of release. By letting go we honor the journey ahead and set ourselves up for greater influence by cutting the dead weight.

Venus and Pluto are also emphasizing a similar message, and being in Capricorn this can certainly have to do with our duties, responsibilities, and all the ambitions we are carrying in that area of our lives. Venus does tie into our relations, so there is likely to be some clearing out in those areas, yet she also rules over the domain of balance and harmony. So in order to come back into integrity, we are needing to call in our power, or attract it back in. Reworking and redefining what is truly valued in order to step into greater empowerment.

The Symbol - Using Your Head 🧠

If you are a previous reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:

This symbol makes me laugh when we consider how much Mercury action is going on around the time of this Full Moon! So it's rather appropriate to have the theme of intellect coming forth in the sabian symbol. One of the great attributes of being a human is the fact that we have the intelligence that we do, with the ability to use our noodles to problem solve and innovate through a highly sophisticated reasoning process.

We also have the ability to discern what is right or wrong, adding in the theme of morality and personal integrity. I have a feeling that we will all be taking a good look at the integral natures of our characters, and from that will have the ability to determine what is and isn't right for us personally. And within a time of transition - as mutable energy is upon us - it's of utmost importance to evolve forward with the mind aligned with the highest (at least in this moment) version of ourselves. I suppose that is where ideals also come into play.

So there seems to be an element of our wisdom and self-confidence kicking in, as our objectives become more clearly define, while also making up our minds to release what no longer fits our worth's criteria. Having the ability to accept the responsibility of personal integrity, along with the courage to live out your own principles, is not always the easiest road, especially if you are up against resistance... yet I think most will agree that it certainly is the smart thing to do!
