New Moon in Virgo - Letting It Flow 🌿
Well folks, we have made it through the crazy energy of this summer and are finally rebirthing with a purifying New Moon in Virgo. Exact on Sunday, September 9th 2018 at 11:01am PDT - this lunation is helping us flow with the many changes that have been directing our lives for the greater growth. I don't think I'll forget the Summer of 2018 very quickly, and I have a feeling that I am not alone in saying that. Between our triple eclipses and nearly every planetary body in retrograde motion, it was a bit of a scorcher to say the least.
Times they be a changing!.. and this New Moon is emphasizing that shifting scenery, as Virgo is a mutable, double bodied sign that can live in two realms. You can liken it to having one foot where we previously stood and one foot that is standing in the territory we have yet to conquer, as if we are straddling a state line. So we must remind ourselves that we are still in a state of transition even though "the worst of it" is technically over.
Now we finally get moving, as mutable signs are known for being on the go! With Mercury, the planetary ruler of this New Moon, now in Virgo and moving at lightening speed, we can clean up our tracks and get our lives better organized for what is to be initiated in the cycles ahead. Taking the time to further develop the skills we may need and to perfect the inspiration that was birthed from the previous Leo cycle is what is on offer at this time. Luckily, we will be able see tangible growth as long as we do the work and put the time and effort into pursuing the conclusions we came to over the retrograde summer.
The Aspects - Plutonian Flow 🐍
Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. There actually is a lot of contact going between the planets, however, some of the energy is separating as it is being experienced as we lead up to the New Moon (and as I write this)... so consider there to be a "setting of the stage" prior to the rebirth this lunar energy brings. So let's dive in deeper...
The first thing that pops out to me in this chart is the Sun and Moon forming a close trine to Pluto in Capricorn and a sextile to Jupiter in Scorpio. If this doesn't speak to the flow of changing conditions, I don't know what does! Pluto, Lord of the Underworld, is known for its signature of rerooting us from the ground up with the much needed transformational energy that every soul must experience through the life time. It reminds me of nesting dolls, as we strip off layer by layer to get to the core that lies inside. Jupiter in Scorpio is serving a similar function, as Scorpio is commonly aligned with the mythology of Pluto - and Jupiter with its main mission of growth, signifies that we must go through the muck in order to come out renewed on the other end.
Since these configurations are considered benefic and flowing - in the fact that nothing is really impeding the change from manifesting - we can consider this an opportunity to easily align ourselves with the transitions that have happened and are happening in our lives, while also opening doors that lead to the growth that we seek. Neptune in Pisces chimes in with an opposition to the Sun just days before the New Moon, bringing to light what needs to be released from our lives in order to embrace the spiritual directives we have been receiving. I think Jupiter really is making an impact in this lunation as it sits at the midpoint between the Sun / Moon in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. Using that Virgoan discernment that can cut the wheat from the chaff will allow us ease in laying down boundaries for the future while also harmonizing emotionally with the changes that have taken place. Luckily with all this Earth energy, we can get a practical and realistic look at our lives in order to embark upon our revised journeys, now aligned with the hard earned emotional maturity Jupiter has pushed us to learn.
Another key element to the Plutonian flow of this New Moon is that a few months prior we had our Solar Eclipse in Cancer - with the Sun exactly opposite Pluto in Capricorn. We may have begun our descent into Hades at that point in time, and the crumbling foundations we were confronted with are now on course to reveal the hidden treasure that is to be unearthed; as long as we reflected honestly on the "instinctual self" that protects our ego and were willing to shed the dead skin that was keeping us from realizing the inherent power that lies within. So look to this New Moon as the opportunity to embrace the regenerative healing that is on offer at this time. The body and the emotions are ready to cleanse and purify, so get out of the way and open up to receiving this rare moment of rebirth.
Our New Moon ruler Mercury is also coming off of a grand trine in Earth, connecting to Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus, which bodes very well for this lunar month. Obstacles free up and the earth energies flow with our ability to get things done which brings tangible results... something we may not have seen for some time now! Communications and learning experiences have an ease to them and trying new approaches to old problems can help to organize our minds and find breakthroughs around the foundations we are laying.
Another signature of liberation energy is happening with our gal Venus who has just squeaked into the sign of Scorpio and is forming an opposition to Uranus and a sextile to Saturn. Partnerships and our more intimate relating styles are getting a bit of a shake-up as it may be time to morph that expression into a more harmonious state. There may be the urge to release others from our lives if our emotional buttons are pushed, yet it is key to remember that going through the depths rather than just skimming the surface will truly allow a relationship to stand the test of time. So look to that sextile to Saturn as an opportunity to strengthen the bond once we free ourselves from any stagnant ways of relating.
Mars is also on approach for Uranus... but I'll leave that for the next segment. 😉
The Symbol - Energetic Explosion 🌋
If you are a frequent reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up... however, this one happens to be a little unique as the New Moon falls exactly on 17°00' Virgo so I am going to consider that as the symbol. Here we have the following:
17° Virgo - "A volcano in eruption."
Keyword: Explosion
Theme: Dramatic Outburst
To me, this symbol really speaks to the flowing aspects that Pluto and Jupiter are tied up in with this New Moon signature. If we think about volcanoes as they erupt, nothing is standing in the way of keeping the flow from rising up to the Earth. So I have a feeling that this lunation is going to get things moving no matter what our own personal reservations are in regards to the matter. Some thing we want to flow and others we may still like to keep underground, yet with energy such as this, it is better to let everything come to the surface, even if you have to sort it all out at a later date.
This symbol also speaks to the the approach of Mars who is about to re-enter Aquarius after a summer's long RX cycle, to make his way to the final square with Uranus on September 18th - a dance that has been going on since our New Moon back in mid-May. There is likely to be some final tension that is building to a climax, and it's quite likely that certain aspects of our life may erupt a bit in order to get the liberation that we are looking for.... and luckily this New Moon has the signature needed in order to let those changes flow.
To take a lesson out of Pluto's playbook, it is best to not fight the forces of nature as there is wisdom in letting something that needs to run its course, run its course. The symbol speaks to a massive buildup that is pressurizing on an internal level and there is no stopping the explosion that needs to happen! So be aware that some anger or volatility can come out of this lunar month... yet, it's also possible that maybe emotions or tears need a release... hell, an eruption of laughter may be just what the doctor ordered! We don't want to look at these things as either good or bad, we want to look at what ever is erupting as necessary for release.
So if you run into those hidden tensions, keep in mind that we are in a state of transition as this is a mutable New Moon contacting forces of change. There is likely to be hidden potential in whatever flows forth from us now, so engage in the process and let it happen! The creative passion that can now rise will allow us to move beyond the mundane and into a revived and purified expression of our former selfs.
