New Moon in Taurus - Timely Transmutation ⏳
Ahhh... the Universe and its agenda! The month of April and our last Aries lunar cycle brought with it pivot points for many of us as the spark of significant new beginnings began to alight our consciousness - whether we were prepared for them or not - and our relations to others and our own personal balance were tested within this mix of fiery energy. Lots of possibilities were thrown into the air, as we wondered where it would all land, and alas, as Luna rebirths in the sign of Taurus, grounding some of those potentialities is now the order of the day.
Taurus, as a fixed earth sign, is known for its steadiness and stability, having the gift to receive the outwardly directed inspiration of Aries and root it down into the practical, everyday world. A fertile space that has the patience and determination to care for the crops that are planted through a dedicated focus. Yet sometimes we become so entrenched within the rhythm of routine that we begin to stagnate, and the ground that was once fertile begins to dry and create oppressive conditions, yet we cling to the "safety" of our habits rather than re-routing our sights towards the direction of change.
Exact on Saturday, May 4th at 3:46pm PST - this New Moon in Taurus is invoking a lunar cycle that highlights very fixed and rooted areas of our charts while waxing its power towards the transformative waters of Scorpio that arrive with the Full Moon on May 18th. Our yearly Full Moon in Scorpio is one of our most intense of cycles, so preparing ourselves ahead of time can be beneficial, as the bull needs a patient approach to change. Taking things one step at a time and dealing with the discomfort of any uncertainty that lies ahead will be needed, for the best results will require patience and the right timing.
The Aspects - Patience With Timing 💃
Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. We have our ruler Venus in a challenging position to the pile up of heavy hitters in Capricorn, while the luminaries themselves are about to trine into this energy, and an impending Mars / Jupiter opposition adds even more fire to the transitional motivations that are now upon us. So let's not waste any time and dive right in...
Let's start with the New Moon ruler, our dear gal Venus, who is sitting in her fiery detriment of Aries and on her way to square Saturn, Pluto and the South Node in Capricorn. Venus in Aries is attracted to what she wants in this moment, and is more aware of her personal desires vs. her usual relationship style of compromise and union with others. And as she meets in a tense activation with this Capricorn pile-up - Saturn on May 7th and Pluto on May 9th - we are opened up to challenge the routines and practical stability of our relationships and creative projects, while also checking for holes in our approaches as time and energy may be leaked out in these areas of our lives. Or it is possible that we find ourselves separated from our loved ones as this aspect perfects, yet ultimately, there is an element of standing on our own - away from the considerations of others - so we are aware of what needs to change and where boundaries need to shift and recalibrate.
Yet we must also take into consideration that our Venus in Aries is taking orders from Mars in Gemini who is in a stand off with a strong Jupiter in his domicile of Sagittarius. In fact, this is the first aspect between planets other than the moon that will perfect the day after our lunation, and its infrequency suggests another transitional point where we must adapt to the changing tides and shift our motivations so that new initiations can be underway once Mars moves into Cancer on May 15th. Jupiter wants us to say yes and take some risks in life, while Mars is weighing both sides of the coin in an impartiality that can be stimulating but also anxiety inducing, especially if there are too many options on the table.
Venus will come around to trine into Jupiter on the very day she squares Pluto, adding to the flow of movement and growth regardless of whether we are ready for it or not. A warrior spirit will need to be embraced, while caring for yourself in whatever capacity helps to spark enthusiasm for what's on the horizon.
Mercury too is separating from his chime in to the Mars / Jupiter opposition, and there has been much talk and discussion around where life is expanding and the possibilities that are before us, yet being in Aries, there are no finalities at this time for we are just throwing things into the air to see what sticks. Mercury is in orb to Uranus in Taurus, which is to perfect on May 8th, so we are asked to be patient for awakenings of the mind will be around the corner, and by the time Mercury makes his superior conjunction with the Sun at 0° Gemini on May 21st - and in the sign of his domicile - there will be greater intellectual clarity around where this is all headed.
Luckily, our Sun in Taurus will go on to trine Saturn & Pluto in Capricorn, while making a supportive sextile to Neptune, allowing us to let go and practically approach sensitive emotional areas so that we may strengthen our awareness of what we would like to lay the groundwork around and put our time and energy into and where strides towards security and supportive change can help bring back some of the stability that we may feel has been shaken in the months prior. Patience is key this lunar month as we amend our motivations while also realizing that the right timing is crucial - yet that doesn't mean we can't prepare ourselves in the meantime.
The Symbol - Poise & Sophistication 🥃
If you are a previous reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:
15° Taurus - "A man muffled up, with a rakish silk hat."
I found this to be an intriguing symbol for this New Moon degree as it suggests a stylish and sophisticated approach to the energy that is birthing at this time. Regardless of the level of stress that the Universe is laying on us individually, we must maintain our poise and dignity - and the "muffled" component may suggest that we do so in a way that allows us to keep our self-composure and approach life with a nonchalant detachment that can be very effective in times of change.
Maintaining dignity and standing in our best selves sends a message to Spirit that we can handle whatever life throws at us and look good while doing so. By taking this approach, it is guaranteed that we will be able to overcome obstacles and accomplish what we set out to succeed in - for we must walk our walk and talk our talk.
Now we don't want to disregard the situations that need our attention or come at things with an arrogance that doesn't honor the gravity of the current situations, so we will have to find that balance of detached sophistication vs. a cavalier "f**k it all" kind of attitude. Taking life seriously, but not too seriously, will be the key to success. And why not put on your finest digs while doing so... because looking your best helps to feel and embody the rooted strength of the self!

New Moon Blessings to All!! 💫
We have an illuminating and enlightening month ahead as we re-till the earth of Taurus in our charts, and even the most stable of conditions are likely to show cracks in the facade as we are letting go to begin a reconstruction phase - and aligning with even our most simplest of needs may be the healing balm that helps get through these times of significant change. We are shedding our skins and preparing to take flight, and the density of the past and our outdated habits and routines are not welcome on this ride. So let's shake things up a bit and test ourselves emotionally, for valuing our needs and inner resourcefulness will eventually bring the peace we all seek.
Wishing everyone a fantastic lunar month!
May the stars be with you!!! ✨✨✨
