Big dreams... it's easy to have them, yet a whole other story to realize them. Some dreams are larger than life, in a world dominion sort of way; yet others, are totally attainable in size, however they just happen to not coincide with where we are at in this particular moment in time. Our dreams are also in direct correlation with our environment and conditioning, for what one would consider a big dream another may deem as an easily manifestable situation. Privilege, willpower, strategy, and stamina... these are all factors along the way and it will take strength of character and sound integrity to plant the utopian seed firmly in the ground.
After a year of retrograde soup, we can feel our pictures expanding in a way that only that downtime would have allowed. It's actually taken a lot to get to this point, and not one step should be discounted in what has seemingly been a long - and for some - agonizing process. Yet now we stand on the precipice of what all that clearing out has been for. The work done was not for naught and the intentions we are to seed during this spiritually driven lunation, are rooted in a new understanding of ourselves and where we plan to take our lives next.
Exact on Thursday, December 6th at 11:20pm PST - this New Moon in Sagittarius - and the last new moon of 2018 - allows us to sense that something big is underway yet not all of the details are in. We are currently in a transitional state for most of the planets involved in the energy are moving through mutable - or double bodied territory - and we are likely to feel as if we are walking in two realms. One foot still stands in what was, and the other foot stands in what is to be, while our center of gravity is like this hot air balloon - rising ever higher into the sky - giving us the feeling as if our heads are in the clouds.
The Aspects - Neptune Washing Over 🧜♂️
Below is a chart of our New Moon at the time of conjunction here in San Diego, CA. The planetary line-up is heavily influenced by the sea god, Neptune, and most planets are under the representation of larger than life Jupiter who is also in the sign of Sagittarius. This New Moon holds no limits, yet that is where the blessing or misconception may lie. So let's not waste time and jump right in...
Let's start with Neptune's influence over this lunation, as this is likely to color the majority of what we are experiencing. The Sun and Moon are both in a square formation with our trident wielding outer planet, while warrior Mars is in a near exact conjunction with the big blue gas giant. So now what does this mean? Well, it's likely to have the affect that we are moving through a foggy and uncertain realm, yet beyond that ambiguity we can sense a larger directive, even though the steps may not be entirely clear at this point in time.
The New Moon phase in a general sense is the darkest point of the lunar cycle, and one that elicits an introspective quiet where energy is lower and spirit is kicked up. With Neptune also dissipating what vital energies are at play, we are likely to be driving through the fog of night and no matter how much we attempt to defrost the shield, we are not able to see as clearly as we like. Yet if we pull over and take a time out, we can tap into the spiritual direction of the collective unconscious... a line that is not linear, but rather an all encompassing circle that accesses all that has been and all that will be.
Now let me be clear, as clear as possible within the potential of obscurity, that Neptune - much like Mercury who happens to be stationing direct ON the new moon - likes to play its tricks. Big Blue is shrouded in such things as mystery, confusion, elusiveness, misunderstanding and bad judgement as our ideal expectations can outfit us with a rose-colored glass vision of the world that isn't entirely true. The allure of something can look so appealing that we lose our way in the process, and our logic can become so clouded that what seems like certainty today could easily be deception tomorrow. And with Mercury stationing simultaneously, both tricksters are out to play in a big way and we want to be aware of that.
Yet, the optimist in me sees another story brewing entirely. Our stationing Mercury is doing so at the end degrees of Scorpio, where it had originally met Jupiter - our new moon ruler - in conjunction before Jupiter moved into Sagittarius and Mercury started its retrograde cycle. The messenger is also in a trine to Chiron which can bring emotional mending our way. So our minds have already been working on this bigger picture vision around what beliefs need to heal and change in order to reach the ideal we seek. Jupiter - although making no ptolemaic aspects for this lunation - is leading the Sun in an oriental position that is stirring the growth pot considerably. The last piece of the story will come in right before our Full Moon in Cancer that happens on Dec. 22nd, for that is when Mercury and Jupiter will meet in conjunction for the last time in Sagittarius and we will then fully understand the next leg of the journey and what 2019 will really embody for each of us.
This plays into the bigger picture of the slow-moving planetary aspect of 2019 - Jupiter in Sag square Neptune in Pisces - which is testing us on the growth and validity of our dreams. Saturn in Capricorn will make an opportunistic sextile to help solidify our currently illumined visions into reality - if of course we choose to do the hard work necessary. Yet we still are not quite there yet... for January will be more ripe in its ability to manifest the start of our story into concrete reality. For now, we get to dream and dream big with the belief that good things take time.
The Symbol - Eye on the Prize 👁
If you are a previous reader of my astroblog, you know I like to look at the Sabian Symbol of the lunation as it adds another bit of depth to the story that we are telling. As always, we take the degree and minutes and round up. Here we have the following:
16° Sagittarius - "Sea Gulls Watching A Ship"
Theme: Staying Alert To Opportunity
This is an intriguing symbol for this lunation as we find ourselves out at sea, just where Neptune wants us! If you know anything about seagulls, you know that they are always on the hunt for opportunity. So much so that there are towns in the UK that are trying to fight back on the birds' less than shy attempts at getting the prize that holds their eye!
So the message lies in staying alert to the opportunities that are on offer as they may be found in likely or unlikely places - and if that prize is right we must be prepared to claim the treasure, and if it seems wrong we will have at least taken the time to discern that the shiny object looked more appealing than it actually was.
I also find it interesting that in the initial writing down of the Sabian Symbols - which happened to be intuited right here in San Diego's very own Balboa Park in 1925 - that psychic Elsie Wheeler had originally written down "pelicans" as the type of bird but then crossed it out to read "sea gulls." I personally associate this sea bird with emotional healing, which seems right within our Mercury SD / Chiron trine that is happening within water signs. Plus the gull likes to coast in the air and survey what is below, giving us the freedom of a wider perspective in which to view our lives both intellectually and emotionally... and sometimes that is all you need in order to seed the next stage of abundance that we all seek.

New Moon Blessings to All!! 💫
This is likely to be a dreamier New Moon than most! Not to fret though... we will come down to Earth eventually here, but for now we dance in this otherworldly essence that is doling out spiritual direction bit by bit in digestible spoonfuls. The key will be the readiness to receive, for if our hearts and minds are open we are now likely to gain the illumination we seek.
Wishing everyone a fantastic lunar month!
May the stars be with you!!! ✨✨✨
